Literature Text

Sharks bigger than your raft intrude,
Trying to scare you to go back.
But courage, faith, and fortitude,
Were never something you lack.

Sneaking across the borders,
Carrying only what you can.
Barbed wires and bullets tall orders.
It would be enough for any man.

Leaving plague and famine,
Does it even strike a bell?
Let's not judge, let's examine.
Why should anyone stay in hell?

All here once came from other lands.
We are built from stories like these.
Not all beggars with outstretched hands,
And bigotry is not something to please.

Our country is a colorful tapestry,
Woven stronger with many fabrics.
Many names inked in its registry.
An amalgam of people, not bricks.

Some now think, this should change,
And that our doors should close.
To only let those in close range,
By whom we picked and chose.

But we are the melting pot land,
Blending in cultures, not schemes.
All should have rights equal in hand,
While just trying to live our dreams.

A poems about my thoughts on immigration, and to honor those I know who have such stories, as they try to make a better life in the name of freedom.

First let me explain why the 4 stars rate, it's not it is bad, on the other hand it's good. But according to my humble opinion a 5 star poem with be one that would entice you with pleasure upon every word you read, as if enchanted by the sound of mermaids.
I like the way you describe a note so simple process of leaving everything behind and rushing towards a dream. A vision the lingers in our head, a piece of land in a desolated ocean of deceptions and misfortunes.
I particularly like when you say "Let's not judge, let's examine."
And then you give a rhetoric answer, why would anyone want to stay in the penumbra of life.
And you finish by stating something simple, that we are just trying to live our dreams, pulling us away from the abyss.
Good poem exploring a social problem that every country faces these days, and yet we mutate ourselves into gargoyles devouring others hopes by just judging other hopes of attain something that most of us have for granted.
